No romance

I don't celebrate Valentine's Day. It's the worst day of the year to go out...

Even if you manage to get a restaurant booking, you have to share the room with married couples desperately trying to look as though they don't usually spend their Saturday nights at Relate. WHSmith has queues of browbeaten men hunting down the least cheesy card left (this is true, I just went there to buy a stamp). And singles, for one day, feel like the world is against them.

Besides, in a world of high technology, where dating is done at speed, when you can pick your partner from a selection on a website, and texting has all but eliminated love letters, what room is there for romance?

In perfect time, to prove my point, a survey in Canada has shown that 40% of people would rather be without their partner for a week than their mobile phone. Also, beware romantic emails because computer virus writers exploit the day especially to send dangerous attachments.

Give you loved one peanuts on Valentine's Day. Go to yumsugar.
