Google, San Francisco

Three domestic flights and a considerable amount of jetlag later, on Monday I reached the offices of Google in San Francisco to give a talk to the staff there about Geek Nation, as part of their Authors@Google programme. The talk was filmed and so, even if you don't work there, you can still watch it above! Enormous thanks to Google supergeek Russ Middleton who organised everything and plastered pictures of the book on every wall. I have it on good authority that Russ also happens to be such a master coder that he may well be the next Zuckerberg... you heard it here first.

If you're wondering what Google is like on the inside, the view from the canteen looks over the beautiful Bay Bridge, which gives you some sense of what an awesome place it is to work. The cubicles resemble playpens in a nursery and there is even a giant slide between floors, should you not be feeling in a stairs kinda mood.

I'm now back in London for a few days before leaving for a mega five-city book tour of India. I'll be blogging from every city and posting pictures on the Facebook group, so please keep your trigger finger on this page. I can't wait to see what Indian readers think of the book... but as a bit of early good news I was thrilled to learn that this week Geek Nation entered the bestseller charts there, at number four for non-fiction. Thanks to everyone who has bought a copy, and please do email me with your feedback.

But when will your book be available in the US?

I wish I could say it would be soon, but Hodder is still in the process of selling the US rights, so I just can't say when! I'll let you know as soon as they are. Promise. In the meantime, you can get it online or on Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/Geek-Nation-Indian-Science-Taking/dp/1444710141

I'm reading the book and I should say you did quite a wonderful job. Right now I'm reading Chapter 4-Chariots of Gods. This chapter, I guess should provoke some kind of introspection among the people. So far the book has revoked my childhood memories of participating in Inter-school Science Fairs and many more of my school days. I wonder where has all that gone for me. I'm quite interested too of what will be reaction of people back at home. I guess for getting a better pulse of the peoples reaction and to promote the book, I'd suggest visiting some schools and reading particularly something like Chapetr 4 to provoke interest and read their thoughts.
